SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
HERO strives to set the highest possible standards of safety. It is afforded one of our top-priorities and is taken into account in every decision we make. All management personnel will continue to enforce this policy as their primary responsibility within their departments and along with this, promote a Positive Safety Culture, while considering the human factor principles at all times. All company employees, contractors and suppliers are required to comply with the standards detailed in our manuals.
We are fully committed to continuous improvement of the quality of everything we do, but especially in regards to Safe Drone Operations. Not only does this ensure airworthy UAS, safe operations and regulatory compliance, but also satisfied customers and partners. It provides for competitive advantages and strengthens our business. We intend to improve our current safety performance and do everything, as far as reasonably practical, to minimize the risk of an accident occurring.
HERO is committed to offer training for every employee, so that everyone’s goal is to perform their tasks safely and advancement of their careers within the company is made possible.
As the Accountable Manager, I support the principles of a Just-Culture and I expect all personnel to report any operational, maintenance, continuing airworthiness, administrative or safety related occurrence or incident immediately through the reporting system provided, at a minimum though, to their respective manager. Everybody has direct access to me on any safety matter. Further, I will provide all necessary human and financial resources for the implementation of all standards set in this policy.
HERO's Safety Management System sets out the fundamental principles we have adopted in order to avoid accidents and incidents. It also provides a basis for dealing with them and learning from them if they do occur.
It is understood and accepted that this policy may be subject to amendment in accordance with new or modified regulatory directives issued by the authority. The safety policy will be reviewed with every change of management personnel, but at least once a year in order to ensure it remains relevant and appropriate for HERO Drone Operations.
HERO fully supports and encourages a culture of openness and trust between all personnel. This cannot be achieved unless all employees feel they are able to report occurrences, observations or hazards without the fear of unwarranted retribution. To that end, personnel reporting safety-related issues are not subject to disciplinary action except where there is clear evidence of:
Gross negligence;
Intentional disregard of regulations or procedures;
Attempted cover-up;
Criminal intent; or
Use of illicit substances.
The purpose of Safety Reporting and internal Investigations is to use the reported information to improve the level of Safety Performance of our organization. The purpose is not to attribute blame or liability.
The specific objectives of HERO's Safety Reporting and Internal Investigations are to:
Enable assessment of the safety implications of each relevant observation, incident and/or accident, including previous similar occurrence, so that any necessary action can be initiated, and
ensure that knowledge of relevant occurrences is disseminated so that other persons and UAS Operators may learn from them.
As part of the implementation of our compliance strategy, we have set up a comprehensive Compliance Management System (CMS) to ensure that our company behaves ethically and in accordance with the law. The SMS also serves to prevent and deter violations. This objective is aimed at our management, all employees and our business partners.
Within our CMS, we have created our own organizational compliance structure in our company. Our Compliance Manager (CM) is specifically responsible for the implementation and monitoring of our CMS. Our CM is available to all our employees and our business partners at any time in person, by phone, by letter or by email for all questions relating to compliance issues.
Our code of conduct sets out the essential duties, guidelines and values for our company's legally compliant actions. Our code of conduct is specified by a large number of compliance guidelines and behavioral requirements. Our company has also implemented numerous other internal processes for risk analysis and effective monitoring of our CMS.
An essential element of our CMS is also the establishment of a web-based internal whistleblower system. All employees of our company as well as our business partners (suppliers and customers, etc.) have the opportunity to report violations of laws, the Code of Conduct and guidelines - even completely anonymously.
